Jämsä

This isn't just to post something to my blog after such a long time of, erm, nothing. This was a trip to Finland, not "just" to the Helsinki region but further up the country, where the thousand lakes are. This trip was undertaken mainly to attend Miina's (Jenny's niese) baptism in Jämsä, not too far from Jyväskylä, as if anyone would know where that is...

But that's Finland as we know it; where no-one speaks English and where everything tastes of minttu or salmiakki - or both.

We stayed at a beautiful traditional Finnish cottage right across the lake from one of southern Finland's best ski resorts (still not much to speak of in Norwegian or Austrian terms) with no less than three saunas. Ah, the saunas. They do wonders for my skin. Still, like recently in Alsace, it can easily become too much, whether it's fois gras three times a day or a steamy hot sauna morning, mid-day and evening.

Anyway, here's a little picture collection to give you an impression of what it was like.
